How to make oral minoxidil from topical minoxidil

My recommendation

Oral minoxidil is difficult to find and unavailable in many countries. This guide will demonstrate how to extract minoxidil powder from topical minoxidil, offering a cost-effective alternative.

In this brief guide, I will reveal a little-known trick: how to convert your topical minoxidil into an oral version. This will allow you to enjoy the benefits of this medication even if you don’t have access to the oral form or if you prefer to take it orally. You’ll be surprised at how straightforward it is – so simple that even your cat could do it!

It’s important to note that oral minoxidil is not available for purchase in many countries. When it is available, you typically need a prescription to obtain it from a pharmacy, often under the name Loniten, with a dosage of 2.5mg. The cost can range from a minimum of $10 to $30 for a one-month supply.

Thanks to this guide, you can easily create oral minoxidil for a very low cost of less than €1 per month. Not only is this less expensive than a pack of candy, but it also means that you can save enough money to treat yourself to a new haircut to celebrate your success!

Minoxidil bottles contain a significant amount of minoxidil in powder form

Did you know that when you buy topical minoxidil, you’re not purchasing a magic solution, but simply minoxidil powder that has been mixed with an ethanol and propylene glycol solution? Yes, I apologize for shattering any illusions.

If you see “50mg/ml” or “5%” on the packaging, it means there are 50mg of minoxidil in each milliliter of the solution. In other words, your 60ml bottle contains exactly 3 grams of minoxidil.

Even the bottle proudly states it:

A 60ml bottle costs approximately €15 and lasts exactly one month.

In contrast to oral minoxidil, which is used at dosages of 2.5mg to 10mg to treat high blood pressure, topical minoxidil needs to be more concentrated because it’s not absorbed 100% by the skin. So, our 60ml bottle contains a lot more minoxidil than a box of oral minoxidil tablets.

To give you an idea, a box of Loniten, dosed at 2.5mg, contains 30 tablets, totaling 75mg of minoxidil, and costs around $15 on average. In comparison, our topical minoxidil bottle contains 3 grams of minoxidil, which is 40 times more than what’s in a box of 30 tablets!

How to use topical minoxidil orally?

I understand you might have expected a mystical ritual involving incantations and candles, but it’s actually much simpler than that. To turn topical minoxidil into an oral version, all you need to do is ingest the topical minoxidil solution, just like you would with any other liquid.

Minoxidil solution contains four ingredients :

  • Minoxidil
  • Ethanol
  • Propylene glycol
  • Distilled water

All four of these ingredients are safe to consume, so there’s no need to worry about your health. For those who don’t consume alcohol, rest assured we’re not turning this into a party; instead, I’ll show you a method to purify it if necessary.

Ingesting topical minoxidil is not inherently dangerous, but what you must be cautious about is the dosage. Personally, I use oral minoxidil at 10 mg, but I recommend that you stay within the range of 2.5 mg to 10 mg per day to prevent nitric oxide tolerance (refer to the courses for further information).

How to measure Minoxidil dosage ?

To achieve the correct dosage, there are two methods to consider, depending on what you have available:

1. Using a pipette

If your minoxidil bottle comes with a provided pipette, it typically measures 1ml. This means that taking 1ml of the solution provides 50 mg of minoxidil.

It’s quite simple. To get your desired dose, divide the volume of the solution by the dosage in milligrams. For example, to ingest 10 mg of minoxidil, simply divide 1ml by 5, which equals 0.2ml. If you prefer a 2.5 mg dose, divide 1ml by 20 and take 0.05ml of the solution.

However, if you find that the provided pipette is not accurate enough, consider getting a finer pipette for more precise measurements.

5.Measuring with a Sprayer:

The second method for dosing minoxidil is to use a bottle with a sprayer. While this method is less precise, it’s sufficient if you are using higher doses of minoxidil.

Some minoxidil bottles come with a sprayer nozzle that calculates that six sprays are equivalent to 1 ml. This means each spray delivers approximately 8.3 mg of minoxidil.

So, if you ingest one spray, you get around 8.3 mg of minoxidil. Admittedly, you don’t have much flexibility in terms of dosage, but if this amount suits your needs, it’s the simplest method. You’ll just need to get used to ingesting your minoxidil in a “cologne-style” manner!

How to remove alcohol from minoxidil solution?

Like me, some of my readers are not fond of consuming alcohol, and it’s challenging for us to drink the topical minoxidil solution that contains ethanol. So, I’m going to show you how to remove the ethanol from the minoxidil solution. Get ready to feel like a real Colombian magician, without the DEA and the narcotics squad on your tail!

You may know that water boils at 100°C, but did you know that ethanol evaporates at around 78°C? To purify our minoxidil solution, we need to heat it to this temperature to allow the ethanol it contains to evaporate.

In our minoxidil solution, there’s also distilled water, propylene glycol and pure minoxidil, but except water, these two components don’t evaporate like ethanol. This means that when we heat the solution, only the ethanol and water evaporate.

The simplest method to carry out this evaporation process is to take a small amount of the solution in a spoon and heat it over a flame:

Once you’ve evaporated the ethanol, you’ll have a white powder on the spoon, which is a mixture of minoxidil and propylene glycol. Don’t do what I did by putting the hot spoon in your mouth! Wait for it to cool before ingesting it. Personally, I prefer to scrape the spoon with a piece of bread or a slice of fruit.

Alternatively, there’s another secret technique that I didn’t want to share, but oh well… You can dip your spoon into a glass of milk or coffee to create a minoxidil potion… It’s pretty good.
