How about reducing your Finasteride costs by 98%?

Yes, you read that right. I mean a whopping 98% reduction. I know it may sound too good to be true, but it’s possible, and that’s exactly what I’m going to share with you in this guide.

Typically, using this medication can be quite expensive, especially for those living in countries with a heavily devalued currency. In France, for instance, a pack of 28 tablets costs around 15€. In just 5 minutes, you’ll discover how to cut that cost down to as low as 0.076€ per month.

This is an invaluable guide for anyone following Finasteride-based treatment protocols.

You can use Finasteride at a lower dosage

Typically, Finasteride is available in boxes of 28 tablets, each containing 1mg. This quantity isn’t even sufficient for a full month, except during February. This reduction in tablet count allows pharmaceutical companies to sell us 13 boxes per year instead of 12. Well…

Normally, a doctor would prescribe a daily dosage of 1 mg of Finasteride. However, in reality, you’re not obliged to stick to this dosage. Take a look at the chart below:

As per the chart, starting with a daily dose of 0.25 mg of Finasteride, we nearly reach the maximum DHT reduction achievable with the medication. This means that higher doses would be wasteful, as they wouldn’t significantly enhance DHT reduction. You can’t really surpass the 72-75% mark with this medication.

Introducing Proscar: a cost-efficient Finasteride option

You’re probably already aware that finasteride is the active ingredient in medications like Propecia. However, once the patent expires, other manufacturers are given permission to produce generic versions of Finasteride, making this medication more affordable for a wider population.

At one point, Propecia was selling for $70 for a month’s supply—maybe it’s still the case in the United States; I’m not sure. This is where Proscar comes into play. This medication is primarily used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, but its composition is identical to that of Finasteride, with the only difference being that the tablets are dosed at 5 mg rather than 1 mg.

Pricing comparison: Finasteride vs. Proscar

In France, Finasteride costs around 15€ for a package of 28 tablets dosed at 1 mg, while Proscar is priced at approximately 10€ for a package of 28 tablets dosed at 5 mg. In other words, Finasteride costs about 0.53€ per mg, while Proscar comes in at around 0.071€ per mg—nearly five times cheaper.

Getting a prescription and exploring lower dosages

That said, it’s important to note that Finasteride requires a prescription and is not covered by social security. Consequently, you’ll have to cover the treatment costs yourself. At this point, Proscar emerges as an excellent alternative. You simply need to persuade your doctor to prescribe it to you. Explain that you plan to use it at lower doses for hair loss and mention that regular Finasteride is too costly for you. Should your doctor decline to prescribe Proscar, you can still use Finasteride at lower doses, for example, 0.25 mg. This allows you to reduce the cost by four.

Alternative methods for obtaining Proscar

There are also other methods to obtain Proscar. However, I want to make it clear that I’m not advocating for circumventing your country’s laws; this is solely for informational purposes. The first method is to purchase Proscar directly online, without a prescription. Nevertheless, finding a trustworthy website that doesn’t overcharge can be a challenge. The second method is more promising, as it involves buying the medication in one of the following countries: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, or Turkey. In these countries, pharmacies can sell you any medication, and at a significantly lower cost. Technically, you should have a prescription, but you’re unlikely to be asked for one.

Exploring lower costs in other countries

Furthermore, the price of Proscar in these countries is around 3.5€, which is three times less expensive than in France. Of course, I’m not suggesting you travel to these countries solely to save 6-7 euros. However, we all have friends who travel to these places, don’t we? You could provide them with some funds and request them to bring back several boxes, which should suffice for several years.

Savings comparison: imported Proscar vs. regular Finasteride

Below is a table displaying the monthly costs of Finasteride, Proscar and imported Proscar :

This table will soon be updated from french to english (our website was entirely in french a few months ago).

By using imported Proscar, you can reduce the monthly cost from 16€ to just 0.75€. Impressive, isn’t it?

While it may seem relatively small, it’s important to remember that this is a lifelong treatment, and the savings can add up significantly over time.

For instance :

  • if you use 1mg Finasteride for 10 years, you would spend approximately 1920€.
  • if you use imported 1mg Proscar, you’ll only spend 90€, saving 1830€!
  • if you opt for imported 0.25mg Proscar, your cost for 10 years of treatment would be just 22.5€.

Incredible, right? You can secure a 10-year treatment for the price of one and a half boxes of Finasteride.

Creating different Finasteride dosages: 0.25mg, 0.5mg, and 1mg

You can easily adjust your Finasteride or Proscar dosage to your desired level using two methods:

Method 1: Cutting the Tablet

The simplest way to reduce your Finasteride or Proscar dosage is by cutting the tablet. However, some tablets come in small or hexagonal shapes, making manual cutting imprecise.

Here’s an image of a Proscar tablet:

For accurate cutting, it’s best to use a pill cutter, an affordable tool found in most pharmacies. This tool allows you to divide the tablet into halves, quarters, or even eighths, depending on your desired dose.

If cutting the tablet isn’t your preference, you can also crush it into a fine powder, which makes dividing it easier. For instance, if you want to use Proscar at 0.25mg, aim to split and consume the tablet over 20 days (5mg/0.25 = 20). While it might involve a bit of approximation, it’s acceptable if you take a slightly higher dose.

Method 2: Dissolving the Tablet in Water

The second method involves dissolving the tablet in water to achieve your desired concentration. Finasteride and Proscar dissolve quickly, create a uniform solution, and have no unpleasant taste, unlike some medications.

It’s crucial to know the exact concentration you’re preparing. For example, dissolving 5mg of Proscar in one liter of water yields:

  • 5mg of Finasteride in 1 liter of water
  • 2.5mg of Finasteride in 500ml of water
  • 1mg of Finasteride in 200ml of water
  • 0.5mg of Finasteride in 100ml of water
  • 0.25mg of Finasteride in 50ml of water

To take your desired dose, simply measure the required amount of water using a graduated glass. For instance, if your glass contains 200ml, to consume 0.25mg of Finasteride, you’d need to drink 50ml of water.

Remember that Finasteride-infused water may have a limited shelf life. It’s advisable to store it in the refrigerator and avoid drinking directly from the bottle (to limit proliferation of bacterias) .
